The Brief, Generation after generation of quintessential and extravagant English charm. The design aims to reinterpret and define the diverse and archetypal craft of the English artisan, through traditional techniques and forgotten processes. These crafts were to be imbued with the wit and humour of the original founder, William Penhaligon.” Fameed Khalique was commissioned by UK-based Fabled Studio to source the perfect flooring surface to fit the brief conveying the heritage and tradition of the brand in the store, designed to feel like an eclectic English gentleman's residence. Wood was an important element of the design - using references to the base notes of fragrances such as rosewood and cedar for design elements in the store creating a sensory experience appealing to the sense of smell, touch and sight.
The Solution, Fameed presented his unique handcrafted inlaid wood flooring to represent the authenticity and history of the brand. Fameed Khalique provided 17 square metres of a custom-made wooden in-laid marquetry flooring using a high-quality French oak with an intricate pattern, accompanied by border planks for the edges of the room. The marquetry was chosen by Fabled Studio to embody the handmade artisanal nature or the perfume and is intended to age beautifully and last for many generations to enjoy.
