Special flooring in Rabobank Sittard
The new Rabobank Sittard is in a sense a 'directionless' building because there is no clear structure of entrance, present salient parts and minor parts. Therefore we have chosen a matching carpet in the form of carpet tiles made by the method of installation no specific direction. These are special tiles from the German manufacturer Vorwerk.
Mecanoo designed the Advisory Rabobank western mining or Rabobank in Sittard. The building has no rigid geometric or mathematical form, but some fans out in all directions. The building has a unique view anywhere and therefore has no clear direction and builds upon it in the choice of flooring on the first floor. It consists of tiles with a trapezoidal-like shape in which the base pattern is established that there is also no clear direction is indicated. Here in such a way
The tiles, designed by the German architect Hadi Teherani, four sides like a trapezoid and may in many ways like puzzle pieces are placed against each other. The tile has a light stripe pattern where the color has a slight gradient. By placing the tiles randomly a highly variable pattern that is surprising, but still forms a whole arises. This is reinforced by all running into each other so that the corridors and various office spaces - with a lot of glass walls - are connected through the floor together.
Although Vorwerk has a special online tool that lets you place the tiles digitally architect chose not to do this, but the project designer spot had to decide how to place deliberately in the same direction the tiles. An interesting detail: the carpet manufacturer never thought of such a 'strange' mix of varying designs, simply because tiles almost always be produced with wall to wall carpeting in mind itself; although it is modular, but the end result should be tight and clear.
Besides the special form (the Crystal from the Freescale collection) Mecanoo let the tiles increase 70% so you can speak of a XL format. That fits in well with the natural stone tiles on the ground floor which also have a large size.
