Tools for Sitting is an installation by JOIN Design featured at IDS Vancouver 2016 that explores some of the most humble examples of purposeful seating - stools.
Some of these stools are designed for specific functions; milking, drafting, printing, gardening, camping, and even birthing. Others are used to establish hierarchy or status via height or decoration. They're designed to collapse, stack, or be stood upon. Many serve dual purpose; both seating and table, seating and storage, for both sitting and standing. Stools must be more than just a seat—designed with an intent, function, or specific purpose in mind.
Founded in Seattle in 2, the original aim of JOIN was to give the local design community a bigger and more united voice, JOIN has since expanded to the Pacific Northwest and beyond to include 50+ independent designers and studios from across the United States
