Chairs

TIME is not a typical conference chair, as it does not follow the current trend of curved organic shapes. It is a little bit cheeky with sharply cut cushions and a strong kinship with the cosmopolitan functionalism of the Bauhaus period.

The cushions are clearly one of the characteristics of the chair. They are deliberately cut bigger than strictly necessary and thus create a titillating exchange between the carrying and the carried elements. At the same time, a lot of effort is spent on every detail, where the distinctive seams in leather or fabric lift the chair up into an exclusive class.

TIME is a swivel chair, and if you turn it around and look at it from the back, you will notice the unusual back piece with a zip in the middle. According to rumours, Tengler was inspired by a beautiful lady in a black dress, with a sensual zip down her back...

The back hides the steel fittings and the zip makes assembling or reupholstering easier. Furthermore, the bottom third of the back rest is constructed as an individual, flexible lower part whereas the top section is rigid.

It would have been natural to combine the square Bauhaus-inspired cushions with a frame in flat spring steel. Instead, HenrikTengler has chosen round steel bars with a particular and costly tempering, which both makes it easy to shape industrially as well as possessing huge strength compared to the delicate dimensions of the steel.

The result is quite a delicate frame with few welded joints - a chair that is not only strong and flexible but also very comfortable. At the same time it is elegant and minimalistic which is the chair’s ultimate brand.

With its painstakingdetailing and well-researched construction combined with the extreme comfort, TIME is a qualified bid for a dynamic conference chair, which at the same time is modern and a classic. It is a chair of its time.
