Fire prevention and safety
Heat and smoke evacuators

These weep hole formers are designed to create clean, attractive weep holes that prevent pest entry and screen out sparks and embers in the event of a fire. Here in Australia bushfires are a major issues. Preventing embers from entering the wall cavity through weep holes is important in improving the resistance of buildings during bush fires. Screening of weep holes with metal mesh has been legislated in the Australian Standard (AS3959:2009). I can provide more information on this although I'm not sure if it would be interesting to your international readership. This product comes in 2 heights. 75mm and 50mm. The 75mm is for standard height bricks whilst the shorter, 50mm, is designed for use in 50mm high bricks, often called split or roman bricks. The photo below shows the 75mm with the orange mortar guard still in place whilst the 50mm has had the mortar guard removed. This mortar guard is used to prevent mortar and paint from coming into contact with the front screen during construction. It is removed afterwards, leaving a clean and attractive weep hole that effectively ventilates the wall cavity. The products are manufactured in 316 stainless steel, making them highly corrosion resistant and suitable for buildings in coastal areas.
