SELV by Dornbracht is new – and different. In keeping with the ethos of 'Design yourself!' or 'Express yourself!', the name puts an emphasis on individual design ideas specific to the user, architect or interior designer, rather than the fitting itself. The product has the ability to slide into different worlds of style. The freedom that this is succinctly and beautifully expressed in the photos by Attila Hartwig, now available from Dornbracht.
Because SELV is so reserved in its form, the series can be integrated into very different design worlds', CEO Andreas Dornbracht observes. 'Architects and interior designers in particular value this freedom.' SELV combines modern, precise lines with a classic, conical form. The fittings have an elegant and representative impact – as with the contemporary interpretation of a traditional three-hole tap with a close-to-basin outlet. A design that is a study in reserved aesthetic, favouring individual interiors. The conceptual collection of images works to express this selflessness and shows SELV as the source of inspiration in four autobiographical bathrooms with a recognisably individual, eclectic style. Berlin photographer Attila Hartwig presented SELV as an object in a very new, progressive way. The fitting as a part of the space, a part of the story being told.
In the photographs, spilled paint and vibrant pigment powder represent the joy of experimentation in bathroom design. The bathroom becomes an autobiographical space – containing props and souvenirs from the owner's own life. Porcelain figures, such as the owl or the hippopotamus, are a reflection of the freedom of approach to SELV. With its mythological significance, calm and wisdom the owl subtly evokes the owner's biography. Much in the same was as the fitting itself, the bathrooms shown in the photographs combine classical and modern elements: Plank floors, high ceilings and wooden panelling – modern materials, vibrant colours and handmade elements. SELV is available as a complete series for the bathroom in chrome and platinum matt finishes. A line of matching accessories rounds off the programme. The product was designed by Sieger Design.
