The A Priori sideboard was my final project from 2nd year in Sheridan College’s Craft+Design – Furniture program. An exploration into spatial awareness and the physical and emotional responses it could evoke in the user. This began as an interest in further defining the value that can be attributed to our everyday objects.
I hoped to achieve this by creating a greater awareness of the object in use and its environment. The idea was that the user would be more cognizant of the object’s purpose as it simultaneously created a sense of atmosphere fostering an appreciation for its place in the home. This project presented a lot of firsts for me as a maker, but it was as a designer and conceptual thinker that I really pushed myself with this piece. I’m excited for the direction this is leading me, but I recognize how far I still have to go.
