Ovo by Monitillo Marmi is an Iphone passive amplifier made from Carrara marble, designed by May Day Design, an up-and-coming design studio based in Milan, and Andrea Maldifassi. Ovo is the first-born in the brand new collection “Pietre di Monitillo”, that’s going to be launched by the Altamura company Monitillo Marmi. Apulia Stil Ovo, like all the other items in this collection, is itself a tale of mingling between the Apulian tradition in stone craftsmanship, international design and the culture of product development as a ceaseless innovative approach, even in the most traditional of sectors. The collection stems from the encounter between Monitillo family and world-famed international designers, with the collaboration of the Design Department of Milan’s Politecnico. Ovo, in particular, successfully expresses the binomials innovation-tradition, digital-analog, artisan know-how and technology. The amplifier shape is obtained by slow and accurate removal of the material from a full Carrara marble slab. The study of its geometries guarantees great amplification despite its small size.

Marble slabs are carefully selected in order to avoid cracks and impurity, then they are processed with CNC technology and and hand-finished in order to obtain a smooth outer surface and a slightly grooved inner surface. This model has been especially created for the Iphone 5 and 6 while the internal core has been designed following mathematic formulas in order to obtain the best and most efficient amplification of the sound. its shape has been painstakingly perfectioned in order to obtain this final, soft shape that allows the product to be inclined in two directions, thus having two different directions of the acoustic flow.

" Alberto Manzoni product description”

Time and again, the designer's work is simply to reveal the soul of the raw material, taking away the superfluous to expose the light of the product within. It all began with a block of wood, an entire laboratory available and the desire to create something unique. The result is an acoustic amplifier for Iphone, shaped by removal of the raw material, with turning and milling. The product has an external cylindrical shape and is equipped with a slot for the device and an internal horn for amplification of sound waves. It all started with initial wood prototypes, then there was the encounter with Monitillo: marble became the new reference material requiring greater precision and care in the design. Every item is unique and can be purchased on Monitillo marmi and lovethesign
