A new woven carpet in 100% wool designed by Claesson Koivisto Rune.

The okapi, Okapia johnstoni, is a giraffid artiodactyl mammal native to the Ituri Rainforest, located in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, in Central Africa.

Okapis have reddish dark backs, with striking horizontal white stripes on the front and back legs, making them resemble zebras from a distance. These markings possibly help young follow their mothers through the dense rain forest and may also serve as camouflage.

"The Okapi is a weird animal. Not exactly beautiful. Genetically the only relative to the giraffe, but looks more like a mix of a deer and and a zebra. However, the legs of this rare African animal have a unique – and indeed beautiful – striped pattern – that became the inspiration for this carpet", says Mårten Claesson of Claesson Koivisto Rune.
