The most subtly colored rugs in the collection, “Normandy” and “Fleur de Lys,” were inspired by the rug designer’s visit to the Wrought Iron Museum in Rouen, France. “I was taking a break after completing a project at a chateau in Normandy,” said Barran, “and I was just blown away by the exhibits at this museum.” Hand-tufted in two levels of wool or wool and natural silk, these rugs demonstrate how color can be used to mimic a different material. The softly mottled black and white on the rugs echoes the facets produced on the iron when it is struck by a hammer.
