Usually spaces are delimited just by one principle: physical elements, visual references or different aspects that have to do with our perception. But, can one single element hold several ways to define a space?
Using a simple geometric system and embracing dichotomies as full/empty, light/shadow and symmetry/perspective, Penadés offers different possibilities to carrying it out, depending on the context and the position in which will be used. New Approach is a project that tends to push the boundaries between space and the user's interaction with it. The project implies a continuous defiance of preconceived ideas in this scope, leading to a deeper involvement of both maker and user. This piece suggests a constant revision of space as the ultimate way to connect with the spectator, turning him into an active user.
The prototype of Penadés´s first self-initiated project was presented at Dutch Design Week 2012. New Approach was curated by the Eindhoven-based collective of Designers & Artists Collaboration-O and it took part into their group show Collaboration-O exposed at Sectie C area during DDW.
