AboutNucraft’s 2013 WinnerAgility

There is a rhythm to collaboration. Back and forth, ebb and flow. Providing a gathering point for these exchanges can be as simple and elegant as Agility, modular tables that enable various configurations without breaking their rhythm – or yours.

A Single Gesture “Most modular tables tend to act like islands and not relate well one to another when configured together,” explains Jess Sorel, Agility designer. “What I wanted to do was set up a rhythm for when the tables were joined together so that the leg from the corner of each adjoining table became a single gesture. I also placed the legs at a 45° angle so that no matter which direction tables are placed relative one to another, the legs form the same relationship.”

Simplicity and Functionality Multiple table shapes and sizes offer a wide range of configuration options. Optional knock-down legs allow for easy storage of unused tables. Interchangeable casters and glides provide easy mobility. Ganging is quick and simple. Top material options offer aesthetic and durability choices. Table top power & data options address a wide range of connectivity requirements, from simple to heavy duty. “The intent was to keep these tables fairly simple yet add a lot of value through some nice details and well-thought-out functionality,” notes Sorel.

Striking Balance “I tried to strike a balance with the design between being visually light while conveying a sense of stability. That's the challenge when something needs to be both changeable and static depending on whether you are in the process of reconfiguring it or are actually sitting down to use the product,” explains Sorel, “The angle and placement of the leg along with its scale and proportion do a good job of achieving these objectives in an elegant way.” Agility fills a gap in Nucraft’s current product offering, a space between training tables and modular tables. “Designers are always looking for product solutions that bring style, value and flexibility to their clients.Agility responds to these needs in the multi-purpose conference spaces so many clients are demanding today,” said Bob Bockheim, President of Nucraft..

Collaborative Effort Agility is the third collaboration between Nucraft and Jess Sorel of sorelstudio. Jess holds numerous design and utility patents and his work has been featured in Abitare, Azure, Blueprint, Contract, Domus, Dwell, Fast Company, I.D. Magazine, Interior Design and Metropolis.
