FROM ONE KAYAN TO A FULLY MODULAR 3D PRINTED RANGE
Following on from the success of their first 3D printed shade range, the creators of the world’s first designer low energy light bulb, Plumen, and the Italian 3D printing design brand, Formaliz3d, reveal the next instalment in the Kayan series.
By bringing out five new bold colourways – Blue, Grey, Red, White and Yellow – they’re opening up possibilities for more creative arrangements and eye-catching displays.
The range launched in April 2015 with a single monochrome Kayan and has grown into a modular collection with over a hundred possible combinations to choose from. Customers can mix and match two shade options, three bulb designs with six different shade and cable colours.
With options ranging from dualtone shade and cable pairings to a checked effect, the new Kayans can be hung in regimented series or organic clusters to bring life and playfulness to any space.
ABOUT THE KAYAN SHADE
Through 3D modelling and 3D printing, the teams were able to create a tailored shade design to complement the curved silhouettes of the Plumen bulbs; the gently sloping sides of the Kayan follow the organic outline of the bulbs.
The Kayan’s punctured sides mean that you can enjoy the unique silhouettes of Plumen bulbs and still have the full brightness of the light projected onto surfaces below. The small openings allow light to escape, creating intricate shadows and a unique atmosphere.
3D PRINTING, A GREAT NEW ROUTE FOR PLUMEN ACCESSORIES
The collaboration, initiated by Plumen, emphasises the lighting brand’s enthusiasm for new technologies, in particular 3D printing.
For Plumen, 3D printing is a powerful tool that offers the opportunity to create fully customised accessories, proportioned to fit the unique shapes of their light bulbs. 3D printing is a technology with great potential. Their own range of 3D printed accessories is in the pipeline.
