Inspired by the stark beauty of boreal landscapes and the ingenious tools we humans have developed to conquer that nature, the pieces also pay homage to the humble ash tree, and its beautiful and versatile wood. All of the Hunt collection pieces utilize steam bent white ash wood to achieve a functional minimalism of strong curved forms with minimal material waste. The red cord detail throughout the collection serves not only as a visual highlight, but has a structural purpose as well in holding the pieces together in tension.
“Growing up, my uncle had a dogsled team, and I still have to this day an illustrated copy of The Call of the Wild and White Fang at my bedside. Tales of northern adventures, and my own experiences of canoe trips, mountaineering, snowshoeing and winter camping all influence my work as a designer.” says Tim Richards, the studio’s design lead “It’s about the bare necessities of humans exploring harsh natural environments; that thin layer of material that we put between our bodies and the land that allows us to harmonize, and a respect for that material, where it comes from, and how best to employ it.”
