A recessed cloud, a suspended cloud, and a transition wall-to-ceiling cloud all make their debut while showcasing their many advantages, particularly their unparalleled strength-to-weight ratio.
Minneapolis, MN – Seeyond™ Architectural Solutions recently installed three unique ceiling cloud features: a recessed cloud in the Minneapolis offices of a global commercial real-estate company; a suspended cloud in the lobby area of a tropical resort in the Caribbean; and a wall-to-ceiling cloud transition at a construction-services firm in Chicago.
Each of the three ceiling clouds is a unique design created in collaboration with the respective A&D firms working with their commercial clients. A proprietary parametric-design system from Seeyond called the Tess™ Specification Tool facilitates the process. Tess enables the integration of design, manufacturing and installation, thereby creating a highly efficient and virtually risk-free experience for architects and designers.
Seeyond Ceiling Cloud Advantages
Seeyond ceiling clouds offer a number of distinct advantages to alternative approaches for ceiling treatments: 1. The cellular resin material used in Seeyond clouds has an incredible strength-to-weight ratio with a one-pound-per-square-foot weight. 2. The Seeyond cloud solution can accommodate any existing substrates and infrastructure, including installed life-safety equipment. 3. The tessellated nature of the Seeyond cloud features allows for easy removal of any of the modules for instant maintenance access to what lies above. 4. Every Seeyond installation features hidden hardware thereby delivering a clean and elegant tessellated aesthetic. 5. Every Seeyond specialty feature is created with the opportunity for infinite customization and complete flexibility throughout the design process.
Further, the Seeyond solution proves to be an ideal approach for efficiently creating organic shape and complex form. Ceiling clouds in particular are generating significant interest and gaining sales traction, likely due to both their dramatic aesthetic and their efficient functionality. “The many distinct advantages of a Seeyond ceiling cloud create a compelling case,” said Kirby Rea, general manager at Seeyond. “Because no additional infrastructure is required for installation (every Seeyond feature is self-structuring), our cloud solution is incredibly appealing to architects and designers. It’s an easy way through a what is often a complex situation – a situation that involves working around existing structures and critical equipment.”
Recessed Cloud Creates Dramatic Visual Impact
A global commercial real-estate company with a new office space in Minneapolis needed a contemporary look for their new employee café space. They turned to bdh + young interiors | architecture, an architecture and design firm that specializes in creative yet functional aesthetics. “The Seeyond solution gave us the dramatic visual interest we wanted, as well as the opportunity to completely customize the ceiling above the café,” said Anton Newman, Project Designer, CID, LEED AP ID+C. “The ceiling cloud is an organic shape within a modern space. The cloud’s programmable lighting creates a flexible look that can feature bold playful color or cool white sophistication. We couldn’t be happier with the result and our client is thrilled with it.”
Suspended Cloud Suggests the Flow of the Caribbean Waters
A destination tropical resort in the Caribbean wanted a dramatic lobby experience for their guests as they entered the property – an experience that reflected the flow of the Caribbean waters. Their A&D firm, DSI Hospitality in Miami worked with Seeyond to deliver on those expectations. “The new Seeyond ceiling cloud is incredibly theatrical,” said Clive Booker, President. “Everyone finds it to be very cool, new and enlightening. It’s a very cost-effective approach for a very challenging space. We enjoyed the truly turnkey nature of the Seeyond solution starting with the highly interactive design phase and working all the way through to installation. The team was great and so is the product. We can’t wait to use it again in another project.”
Transition Cloud Commands Visitor Attention
A commercial furniture services firm called Installation Specialists, Inc (ISI) in Itasca near Chicago imagined a warm and welcoming arrival area for their corporate offices. “We wanted to achieve a certain depth and warmth in the reception area as guests enter,” said Matt Sprenzel, President and CEO. “We certainly did that with the unique design of the Seeyond feature.” ISI worked with A&D firm, The Nelson Midwest Operating Company to realize their vision. “It’s a gorgeous feature,” said Adina Balasu, Project Manager, Associate AIA. “The organic nature of the piece gives it an impressive look. We were able to achieve a highly contemporary aesthetic without the typical high cost and high construction effort. The best aspect of Seeyond is the inherent design flexibility of the solution. We hope to use it again whenever the opportunity arises.”
