Until 1960, window glass was made by drawing and, up to 1920, even hand-blown. The tiny distortions and irregularities caused by these processes create the special light and reflection effects characteristic of old and historic buildings. AGC’s Classico range combines atmospheric charm with present-day insulation and safety requirements.
How it works
Due to the manufacturing processes used in the past, the original glazing in monuments and historic buildings, although appealing, no longer meets our current standards of comfort. AGC’s Classico comes in various thicknesses which both preserve an authentic atmosphere and guarantee high insulation values. The Classico range includes a wide variety of coatings and uses various rare gases to supply a perfect match for historic and industrial-heritage buildings from all periods.
Range
Classico is available in the following versions: Planibel Classico 3 mm, 4 mm and 6 mm; Stratobel Classico, a laminated safety glass with a thickness of 7 mm to 10 mm depending on the composition; Stratophone Classico, an acoustic laminated safety glass with a thickness of 7 mm, 8 mm or 9 mm; and finally Thermobel Classico, an insulating double glazing, available in a total thickness of only 10 mm to 12 mm.
Performance
AGC has designed its range of monumental glazing according to the various styles achieved in the history of glass manufacture. Classico is available in three styles, “Old-Fashioned” (corresponding to pre-1920 glassmaking techniques), “Classic” (imitating the glass manufactured between 1920 and 1960), and “Modern” (glass manufactured after 1960). Although the U value depends on the composition, it can be as high as 1.0 W/(m².K).
Advantages
Although the original glazing in historic buildings has considerable old-world charm, it no longer meets our current standards of comfort. AGC’s slimline Classico range guarantees a high insulation value even when the glazing has to be installed in existing rebates, so that it combines an authentic effect with current performance requirements.
Classico is manufactured by AGC Westland in Maasdijk, the Netherlands.
