BIGFOOT™ is e15’s first product and remains to be anenduring brand icon. Designed in 1994 by e15 co-founderand architect Philipp Mainzer, a radical, new simplicitycharacterised the design of the table leaving an indeliblemark in the evolution of contemporary furniture design.From solid European oak, the table’s essential formsboldly lay bare all natural markings and character istics,thus establishing a leading reputation for e15 for thepioneering use of solid wood in its purest form.
Today BIGFOOT™ is considered the quintessential solidwood table, the benchmark for all others. Like no othertable, BIGFOOT™ reconciles apparent contradictions suchas rawness and elegance, tradition and innovation, styleand functionality. Using traditional craft knowledge as wellas state-of-the-art manufacturing methods, thousands ofBIGFOOT™s have been built. It is also the central point ofreference for all other e15 tables.
For e15, the anniversary of this iconic table is a centraltheme during the brand’s 20th anniversary in 2015 andwill constitute the start of a variety of special exhibitions,collaborations and editions.
Presenting the first highlight, e15 collaborates with artistand illustrator Geoff McFetridge. The renowned LA-basedartist works across a great variety of media includinggraphic design, illustration and animation for clients suchas Sophia Coppola, Patagonia, Nike and the New York Timesamong others. His works are part of several museum exhibitionsincluding the Museum of Modern Art in NewYork and V1 Gallery in Copenhagen where he recentlypresented a solo exhibition showing 13 new paintings oncanvas. For e15, Geoff McFetridge created the artworkfor the E15 SELECTED object MONSTER DICE in 2007.
For the brand’s 20th anniversary, Geoff McFetridge createsa limited edition BIGFOOT™ using laser etching. Coveringthe entire underside of the table, the artwork focuses onthe table’s patron, the creature Bigfoot that people believeinhabits forests, mainly in the region of North America.The special edition BIGFOOT™ is a limited edition of94 tables in 2.30 x 0.92 m in European oak. The editionnumber refers to the year of the table’s design. EachBIGFOOT™ table is branded with a stainless steel plaque,holding authenticating product information as well as thesignature of Philipp Mainzer, the designer of the originalBIGFOOT™. A numbered A2 print showing the artworkis provided with every purchase of the edition table.
