This spring we launch the elegant rattan sofa Belladonna as part of our ICONS collection. As implied by the name, the sofa is designed by the Italian Neo-Rationalist architect and designer Franco Albini (1905-1977).Franco Albini had great success with his furniture design throughout the 1950s where he merged modern minimalistic design with traditional Italian craftsmanship and created a range of beautiful sculptural rattan furniture design.

Sika Design has been allowed the great privilege of leafing through Franco Albini’s design archive for the purpose of puttingsome of his iconic rattan design back into production. The sketches for this wonderful sofa dates back to 1951 and it has not been in production for more than 50 years.

The sofa has a very elegant expression with its fine open weave and the beautifully curved back. The construction gives the impression that the seat sits on a pedestal, which gives Belladonna an almost majestic aura. Belladonnais a decorative element that will suit almost any type of interior décor. Throughout his career Franco Albini was awarded with three prestigious Compasso d’Oro awards and his famous and fashionable rattan chairs Margherita and Gala are both featured as part of the permanent exhibition Museum of Modern Art (MOMA) in New York.
