London design studio, CUSTHOM, have pioneered the process of digital embroidery on paper in the UK, creating unique tactile wallpaper designs. Aves draws on the rich heritage of Otomi fabrics from Mexico. The tactile designs depict a menagerie of creatures, delicately stitched on paper and cotton in a palette of cream, blue, soft grey and dark charcoal, creating designs that are at once dramatic and refined. The pattern is rooted in tradition but offers a contemporary and graphic interpretation. Echoing the craftsmanship of the original hand embroidery, CUSTHOM have maintained the use of stitch and have sourced the finest modern British craftsmen in the North of England to embroider their design. Using digital embroidery, the traditional Otomi creatures are expressed with graphic precision, geometric shapes underpinning the organic imagery.
