The inspiration for the design piece comes from Apollo Lunar Spider. Therefore, there comes the name Lunartable. Organic design, followed by innovations and technology, functionality and ergonomics symbolise three important foundations of the architecture and design. Therefore, Lunartable has three legs‘structure.

UNIQUE PROPERTIES / PROJECT DESCRIPTION: The table has an esthetical, functional and futuristic shape. The organic form of the design piece emphasizes the flowing shape of the frame. Despite the delicate forms Lunartable can resist of high pressure. The frame structure and materiality are being well created and designed to stand of…

OPERATION / FLOW / INTERACTION: The table is designed as a coffee table. The table is tough. Therefore they can be used outside and inside. The lunartable has 3 horizontal surface on different levels, where you can put things.

PROJECT DURATION AND LOCATION: The project started in June 2009 in Darmstadt / Germany, first prototype was completed in September 2009. The prototype was presented at a student design exhibition in October 2009 in Darmstadt. In July 2012 is born second prototype. The frame is completely revised with the new prototype and has organic form.

PRODUCTION / REALIZATION TECHNOLOGY: The table can be produced by sand casting method. The sand mold is made by 3D printing process. The frame of the table can be produced out of aluminium, magnesium, stainless steel, platinum, gold and glass. The second method is identified (determined) by CNC 5 axis robot. It produces the frame out of a piece of wood. Another possibility is produce from carbon or glass fibre materials. The table can be also completely 3D printed made of plastic material.

SPECIFICATIONS / TECHNICAL PROPERTIES: The measures are 1075x1015x560mm

CHALLENGE: The biggest challenge was to develop a functional piece of furniture from a messy structure. Second great challenge was to build the digital model in the 1:1 model.
