Treeplast, a bio-based material for building products

A connecting device for straw-bale building, a modular laptop and tablet stand, these products are the first commercially available examples of Treeplast. Treeplast is a no-plastic containing bio-based material that is used for mass production of durable, functional products.

Treeplast is a European made composite of wood related substances (lignite, cellulose fibers and other bio-based components) that can be formed in any shape just like plastic, but than without the plastic! The material is smooth, but with a natural appearance and colored with bio-based colors (master batches). Years of development have lead to the design of sustainable products and now Treeplast is near a breakthrough in many applications.

Beside the environmentally sound material, Treeplast products are designed to be productive, durable and useful. So you don’t have to throw your product away in a year or less, but if you eventually do, it will not harm the environment and can be biodegraded. The Treeplast straw-bale screw is used in the straw-bale building of the GrAT in Austria to support the cladding to the straw bales. The screw is available at Treeplast and may be a stepping-stone to further product development in architecture and construction.
