Coffee tables

The Oliver coffee table collection was designed for Durlet by Alain Monnens. Originally, the design was limited to a narrow and tall side table. The design was however very well received, and during the development stage the design was expanded to encompass a full coffee table range. The point of departure was an optical illusion that to support three points on a floor base, you don’t need three sides of a triangle. Thus an entire metal tube was bent in a shape that appeared to be a triangle at the base without being one, and therefore able to transform fluently and quite logicallooking, from a flat leg to a vertical connection, the table surface. After many tests on stability and proportions, besides the side table with a 40cm diameter and 60cm height, a round coffee table with a 68cm diameter was also created. It’s available in 2 heights, 33cm and 40cm. It is now also possible to create both an oblong coffee table and a long console by using the same (respectively lower and taller) base twice as support under a single table top. Thus you can create your own desired ideal coffee table collection according to your own style and needs. The table top itself can then be chosen in either stained oak or upholstered in leather, and the arched base could be either painted black or in chrome. The name Oliver indeed originated from Oliver Twist, and there will immediately ring a bell of recognition when you see the design…
