The detached single family home from the interwar years had been renovated with much intuition a few years back at the owner’s initiative. The family expanded and one major drawback to the house needed to be tackled: the lack of an access to the garden. Now there are an additional 50m2 of living space of lightweight build on spot foundations. Stretched along the sloping terrain, the building leads into the garden. The spot foundations allow for the old trees to be preserved. The roof opens up towards the street, letting the afternoon sun flood the extension during the winter months and shielding the sunny rooftop terrace from the street. To the west, another room with a wet area can be detached if required. The wood of the interior stairs was available onsite and was reused, the power trowelled, monolithic floor continues the simple, modest architectural language in tune with the already existing building.
