‘Gaufrette au Barcelone’ is a piece of furniture which through the use of discarded material, criticizes the ephemeral and unsustainable use of mass produced material in our environments.
Each table is unique and is whispering a different tale of this city; is composed by salvaged material coming from various characters, households, neighborhoods. These wood panels, once a closet or a cupboard -which have been keeping the belongings of Barcelona’s diverse population- are now reinvented.
The layering technique used, is inspired by the French recipe of Gaufrette au Chocolat. The secret of this French pastry is to be found within its thin layered ingredients. Similarly Gaufrette au Barcelone, uses layers of ‘ raw’ material, mainly MDF, chipboard and plywood in order to reveal its qualities densities and thicknesses.
