Office building

MOB architects as Architects

This office building was designed to house the headquarters of a pharmaceutical company and is comprised of three aboveground and two underground floors. The offices, meeting rooms, a restaurant, a canteen and a library are situated on the top three floors, while the two basements serve mainly for parking and auxiliary uses. A large area on the first basement is occupied by a multi-purpose hall that can function as either a single large hall or as three smaller ones.

The shape of the plot, building code restrictions, and the existence of rows of pine trees in the site determined the shaping of the building into a single elongated rectangular volume, with a small number of projections and recesses along its length, organized into two wings with two entrances and three service cores (stairs – elevators – restrooms). In order to meet the company’s demands, interior spaces were divided into a large number of offices and meeting rooms of diverse sizes through the use of a 7.40m column grid along the length of the building, so as to accommodate offices or meeting rooms of a minimum width of 3.70m.

To ensure plenty of natural light and uninhibited prospect of the exterior, large areas of glazing were installed on all elevations, while sun shading was achieved mainly through stainless steel messes, selected because, while they exclude approximately 60% of direct sunlight, they allow for uninterrupted views of the surrounding landscape.
