SAGRA Architects architectural competition 1st prize “And anyone who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it.” Matthew 23:21 The basis of our concept was to create an open, clear and transparent space that still represents protection. Due to its architecture the church serves as a suitable place for worship. Trinity plays a fundamental rule as well in the layout of the site plan as in the interior concept. The church complex contains three main masses: the church, the congregation house with pastors office and the bell tower. The three volumes form an inseparable unity. The composition of the three main volumes is completed by the urn wall, the lavender garden and the green courtyard with seating. The lavender garden is created for a meditation place: “the silent garden of the cemetery”. The garden is enclosed by the church and the congregation house. The bell tower creates an accent at the entrance. Its strong volume refers to the protestant tradition in contemporary form. The clear, simple volume of the church is situated in a more protected place of the site, pulled back from the street line. Enclosed by the volumes open and semi-open spaces are created. These spaces are inseparable parts of the inner life of the complex, owning special qualities. Opening the glass wall on the eastern façade the interior of the church spreads out, comes into contact with the outer world. Through the fritted glass surface of the glass wall the interior and the exterior stays in contact even if the glass wall is closed. The fritted glass surface preserves the intimate atmosphere of the church's the interior. The courtyard provides a possibility for the youth and mothers with small children to follow the worship. The courtyard forms the first step into the church. The congregation house can be opened up to ist terrace. The northern wall of the bell tower serves as a background for the communion table.
