Villa "S"

Beluga & Toechter as Architects

The architect house villa S is a design for a 4-person family in Ober St. Veit in the 13th district of Vienna. The plot is located on a hillside with a panoramic view over the city. The clients are both active in research in international organizations and have a multi-cultural background that make their requirements on the interior design of their dream villa appear relatively atypical in this region. The clients need a flexible space for large gatherings of family and friends. They are used to a barrier-free transition between indoor and outdoor areas. It is necessary to plan for an autonomously functioning guest area for longer stays by visitors to the family. Especially because of the numerous guests in the house, it is necessary to create a private area for the family. Villa S was divided into three areas, which are perceptible as cubes in the outer shape of the villa, but inside are intertwined. Upon entering the villa there is a view through a glass panel opening to the outdoors. Here, the individual cubes flow into each other. A spiral-shaped floating staircase leads up to the private area. Left hand, visitors enter the guest rooms and right hand leads the way into the living room and the kitchen which is open and communicative. The private sector on the upper floor includes the bedroom and retreats for parents and children, as well as an integrated bathing oasis in the parents’ area and a separated bathroom for the children. For guests a pool house has been integrated into the outer shell. Visitors will find there their own bathroom, sleeping facilities and a cloakroom area which provides a certain degree of privacy. The shared area is characterized by a very large living room that opens barrier-free to the outdoor area. From the pool you can enjoy the view over Vienna. The total glazing of the living area can be removed freely in order to extend the living area to the outside. Image credits: Teodora Radeva, Moroso, Dedon, Flos.
