Invited and curated by Andre Fu (Hong Kong), Ministry of Design was commissioned by Kvadrat Denmark, to design and create a new piece of furniture reinterpreting Kvadrat’s Hallingdal 65 (an iconic woolen textile first designed in 1965 by Nanna Ditzel). The brief was to reinterpret the fabric, developed more than 45 years ago, in a modern context and to include geographical cues as much as possible.

The installation was presented at the Jil Sander showroom in Milan, during the Salone Del Mobile 2012. Invited designers include Marti Guixe, Raw Edges, Fredrikson Stallard, Martin Azua, Front and Benjamin Graindorge. The exhibition will tour around the world after the fair.

Demographically Speaking comprises 3 differently sized colourful poufs. They reflect the morphing ethnic diversity and growing population of Singapore over 3 periods - the past, the present and the future. Extrapolating simple two-dimensional pie charts, our aim is to exploit Hallingdal 65’s full colour spectrum to convey the cultural diversity and dynamic growth of Singapore
