Studio Kokovice

AOC as Architects

The Studio Kokovice project is a proposal of a rufurbishment of an old barn. It belongs to a farm in tiny village of Kokovice, inhabited since stone age, in the proximity of the biggest menhir in Bohemia. The farm was bouhgt by a pair musicians and dance theatre performers Kristyna Lhotakova and Ladislav Soukup few years ago. The lead performing art courses for local childern, run a band Kopir Rozsyval Bestar and a dance theatre company. They decided to build a house all these functions in a new building. The houses in the village have specific stone construction and gabled roofs, prolonged floorplans gathered around a pastoral village square. the barn was severely damaged during last decades of communist ownership. The intention of the project is to reflect the local building culture in a new fresh way. The program of the house consists of a smal performing space, a community hall/bar both with necessary facilities, fine arts stuido and few rooms for accomodation of artists in residence. The spaces will have their own dramaturgy and can be hired for seasonal works, too. The teaching of dance/music/ arts subjects will be given during the school year. The aim is to raise the cultural awareness of the overall area, struck by poverty and mass culture.

Ground floor: variable performing space with high ceiling for 150 people changing rooms foyer/ community space technical rooms

First floor: Arts studio Accomodation 12 people

The Project is seeking for funding as the originally proposed finance from the authorities failed.
