The existing extension to this handsome semi detached house was partly demolished in order to create a new kitchen, utility room and study with access to a new garage. The owners wanted a large contemporary and airy space with improved access into the garden. A large bay window to the rear of the property placed a constraint on the size and location of the extension, so we designed a solution such that the character and proportions of the existing building would not be compromised. The resulting design was a long extension linking the house to the lane at the bottom of the garden, allowing for an improved connection to the garden and making the most of the southerly aspect.
