Chalavus Haus D

Apartment house Hans-Jürg buff

Pablo Horváth as Architects

The apartment house of Hans-Jürg buff closes the Southwest build Chalavus in St. Moritz bad. Together with other surrounding buildings arranged around a protected green courtyard, emerges as a high-quality urban complex. The five-storey new building joins similar to a Boulder on the South side in the existing loose construction. The House benefits from his detached, free-standing location. So, orientate the partly two-storeyed residential units in all four directions and provide stunning views of the picturesque mountain landscape. At any time of day that suffuse living and sleeping areas-changing and exciting lighting.

The architectural style of the new building takes bonds on the regional culture of the building, but traditional and regional elements are transported to the present day: The towering figure reminiscent of the occurring in all over Graubünden Tower typology from the late Middle Ages. The massive stone facade the entire building envelope carries this idea in itself, such as the wild Association of stone, who is largely responsible for the impression of a monolithic building. We underlined that by the polygonal shape of the floor plan, which at the same time free are always the views of several pages of the shimmering stone.

Loggias in wood fanned modulate and the monolithic structure similar to structure the underlying the archetype. The Faltschiebeläden made of wood also to express the character, but also the contemporary requirements. As well as Load-bearing structure of the massive building envelope, including the roof made of concrete, the desire of today's buying public into account, because the non-load bearing interior walls free used to inner flexibility so.

An insulating layer between the eight inches of massive stone and concrete walls provides the necessary energy figures, to achieve the underperformance of the cantonal value required in the local building code. Earth probes provide the alternative energy for heating. It is clear, how sensitive handling of the urban context the regional motif and the claim of the combination of this architectural aspects with modern technical requirements can be brought out of the housing and environment an added value is created.
