Aim of our work – during the process of renovation and reconstruction of a historical building or ensemble to preserve its characteristic, singular image and infuse it with the contemporary function. A successful union of these aims ensures continuous and lasting life of the building. The result of reconstruction is a new architectural quality. Foreground semantics and background functionalism – such combination of concepts is used by the magazine Domus (1999 No.1) in an attempt to define the reconstruction practise of the new millennium – the added style. In Germany it is defined as building on the past.
Stages of the reconstruction process:
- historical research, analysis and definition of the image of the old building;
- analysis of the new function;
- uniting the old and the new, balancing on the sharp edge of the plastic surgery knife within the boundaries of the architect's intuition.
