Yong Ju Lee, AIA is principal of Seoul-based Yong Ju Lee Architecture. His interest is complex parametrics and architectural tectonics in terms of new vocabularies of pattern and tessellation based on information. His works keenly focus on the geometric experiment as a primary creative and aesthetic gesture of building when information becomes essential from conceptual process to actual construction.
He received a Bachelor of Architectural Engineering from Yonsei University in 2006. In 2006 he moved to the US to pursue his Master of Architecture, which he received at the Columbia University Graduate School of Architecture Planning and Preservation (GSAPP) in 2009. He has worked at architecture and design firms in the US and Korea including Asymptote and most recently Handel Architects. He has taught graduate design studio and tech elective class at Montana State University and served as guest critic at Columbia University and New York School of Interior Design. He has won numerous design awards, lectured and exhibited nationally and internationally including the Leonardo major art Installation Competition (winner, realized in 2011), the Teton County Library’s public art competition (winner, realized in 2013) and recently Young Architects Program 2014 finalist for National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Korea. He is registered architect in Massachusetts and partner of New York based E/B Office with Brian Brush. He is currently teaching at Yonsei University in Seoul now.
