Tsao & McKown Architects

Established in 1985 in New York City, Tsao & McKown Architects (T&M) is led by founding partners Calvin Tsao, FAIA and Zack McKown, FAIA. Our projects show a wide range of building typologies, scales, cultures, and contexts. We regard the tactile interaction between the human body and the built environment as critical to design’s ability to speak to and promote identity, place, history, community, and wellness. Fundamental to T&M’s process is our dedication to thoroughly understanding our client and all that is relevant to a project. We begin by intently listening, researching, and asking a myriad of questions in order to fully appreciate a project’s imperatives. We take pride in economic, efficient, and graceful solutions that create not just beautiful architecture but also social and civic relevance. A holistic approach to social and environmental sustainability is central to our process and thinking. We measure the strength of our work in broader terms as we believe that architecture exists in both spiritual and pragmatic realms, and is responsible to both. We seek to understand and improve the full range of human endeavors through design.
