Tom Cortoos Architecten

Tom Cortoos Architecten is founded in 2012. Before Tom Cortoos was a project-architect at Stéphane Beel Architects in Ghent and partner at 1:1Architecture in Antwerp. The office operates at varying scales in different branches. Commissions vary from small scale private houses to large buildings and urbanism. In 2007 Tom won the international ‘Europan’ competition in Zagreb with a plan for the reconversion of an abandoned industrial site into a 50.000m² mixed use area. In 2009 the Flemish Community awarded Tom a grant for his study on new forms of collective housing in Flemish villages. Tom was invited by the Flemish state architect to collaborate in workshops for developing a vision on possible development; the Schelde waterfront in the city of Oudenaarde and reorganising the station area in Mechelen. Since 2011 Tom has been teaching at the architecture faculty of the Antwerp University. Before he taught at the Academie voor Bouwkunst in Rotterdam (NL).
