Simon Dance Design is an architecture and design studio with a strong creative vision: timeless simplicity, combined with an attention to precise construction detailing. From urban design to product design, our philosophy embraces sensitivity to context through an elegant, modern and considered approach. The practice offers a full design service and is an evolving project in itself, where creative solutions are formulated, material applications are tested and research is undertaken. The result is a consistency of design and detailing throughout. Simon Dance collaborated for nearly ten years with John Pawson, leading high profile projects including the Cathay Pacific First and Business Class airport lounges in Hong Kong, and worked on Calvin Klein’s flagship New York and Tokyo stores and his New York apartment. He also edited the Critic and Minimum books. He formed his studio in 1996 and developed projects for leading figures in the arts including photographer Richard Burbridge and artist Callum Innes. Setting up Borgos Dance, from 2001-2007 Simon directed award winning projects in Europe and the USA as well as collaborating with artist James Turrell. These projects continued to demonstrate his pursuit of a sympathetic yet rigorous approach to both new build and refurbishment. The studio was reformed in 2007 as Simon Dance Design. Architecture and design contributes to our wellbeing. Our pursuit of quality increasingly embraces the performance of buildings, how they adapt to change and how they may become obsolete or regenerated. These concerns and interests motivate us to use natural resources more efficiently in all our projects, whatever their scale. The studio is currently working with corporations and private clients on residential, commercial and cultural projects throughout Europe and United States of America. This selection of work illustrates some of our initial steps as a studio. These projects are the first traces of a developing language of ideas, which we hope to expand and enrich over time in association with energetic and talented collaborators. Simon Dance Design seeks to offer not only an outstanding creative service, but to deliver projects in a manner that exceeds our client’s expectations.
