Rice+Lipka Architects

Rice+Lipka Architects is an innovative, New York-based architectural platform for a range of building, planning, art, exhibition and cultural research projects. The award-winning practice is widely recognized for its ability to engage the public with contemporary built works that emerge from fresh programmatic and formal speculations, and to integrate new construction techniques and materials. The practice has developed an iterative design approach that takes pleasure in teasing out the unexpected potential of projects by inventively embracing their practical constraints. Principal, Lyn Rice was a design principal-in-charge and architect-of-record for one of the world's largest contemporary art museums, Dia:Beacon, and with Astrid Lipka has led design work for the Sheila C. Johnson Design Center (New York), The New School Welcome Center (New York), Ordos 100: Villa 007 (China), as well as multiple projects for the New York Public Library (New York). Since its founding in 2004, the office has been awarded nine American Institute of Architects Design Awards, an International Architecture Award (by the European Centre for Architecture Art & Design/Chicago Athenaeum) (2009), and the New York Municipal Art Society Masterwork Award (2008) among others. RLA's work has been widely published, internationally exhibited, and Rice was selected as one of the Architectural League of New York's Emerging Voices in 2002 and named part of the 2003 Design Vanguard by Architectural Record.
