Malcolm Reading Consultants

Malcolm Reading Consultants is an expert consultancy specialising in achieving outstanding design for clients who are commissioning new buildings or refurbishing and conserving existing ones. MRC is the leading independent organiser of design competitions based in the UK. We have over eighteen years’ experience running international open design competitions, as well as private invited competitions. We also specialise in heritage master-planning, feasibility and proof-of-concept reports, where a client needs to convince internal or external stakeholders of a project’s viability, or indeed, test a development strategy. Other services include brief-writing, critical to the success of a project, and client representation, where a client needs strategic advice to manage the highly-complex teams now required for world-class projects. MRC has helped organisations as diverse and high-profile as the Cadogan Estate, the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, Durham University, White Cube, the National Media Museum, NATO, the Duchy of Lancaster, the Queen’s College, Oxford, and the Victoria and Albert Museum. Malcolm Reading trained as an architect and founded the company in 1996. Since 2005 he has been a Trustee to Historic Royal Palaces and is currently Chair of the Tower of London UNESCO World Heritage Site Consultative Committee. He is also a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts and an honorary Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society. He is supported by an energetic professional team with a varied background in architecture, urban design, law and journalism; and with both commercial and public sector experience.
