Jean-Michel Wilmotte

Architect, urban planner and designer, Wilmotte opened his own firm in 1975. Today, together with a team of one hundred seventy three people of different nationalities, he is working on more than two hundred projects in France and other countries in Europe, in South Korea, Lebanon, Morocco, Qatar, Japan, Russia and the U.S. His firm’s activities range from industrial design to architecture, while also pursuing projects in the fields of contemporary makeovers and museum design. In his capacity as urban planner, he developed the concept of “interior architecture within the city”, which treats public space with the same care as private space. Since January 2010, Wilmotte & Associés SA has become one of the most important architectural practices in the world (rank number 71) according to a survey made by the magazine Building Design. In 2005, he created the Fondation Entreprise Wilmotte, which organises the annual Prix W competition dedicated to discovering and supporting upcoming talents and raising their awareness of the importance of associating heritage with the architecture of tomorrow.
