FreelandBuck is an architecture practice based in New York and Los Angeles formed in 2009. Affiliated with Yale University and Southern California Institute of Architecture (SCI-ARC), the office focuses on the spatial, atmospheric and structural potential of computational pattern. Our work on commercial interiors and speculative installations translates the digital space of software into physical, tectonic reality through the precision of pattern. At the scale of houses and larger institutional buildings, the office designs integral networks of distinct spaces, creating intimacy within larger buildings and institutions. At the scale of the city, our work focuses on the strategic reconfiguration of infrastructure, developing natural and urban systems supple enough to insinuate themselves into the existing geometry of the city. The firm has exhibited widely and received the 2011 ArchIs Prize from the Los Angeles AIA. Our work in the United States and Europe has been featured in Architectural Record, Detail, Frame, Azure, Surface and LOG as well as several recent books on Architecture and Technology.
