Design Singapore Council

The DesignSingapore Council was established in 2003 to help develop the nation’s design sector. This follows from the Economic Review Committee’s report which identified the creative industry as one of the three new sectors (including education and healthcare) for economic growth. The DesignSingapore Council is part of the Ministry of Communications and Information. Developing the design sector, an important part of the creative industry, can help to enhance Singapore’s value proposition; as well as contribute to the country’s economic growth and social progress. The vision of the DesignSingapore Council is for design to differentiate Singapore from global competition. As the national agency for design, the Council’s mission is to develop the design sector, and to help Singapore use design for innovation and growth, as well as to make life better. To achieve the vision, the Council focuses on two areas of work: Market Development: The department comprises two teams, Design Innovation and Design Adoption. They develop, facilitate and grow the demand for design services and products. Industry Development: The department comprises another two teams, Sector Development and Centre Programming. They develop and enhance the capability of design practitioners.
