BEALS + LYON Architects

LORETO LYON: Architect, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2005; Master of Science in Environmental Design and Engineering at the Bartlett, University College of London (UCL), 2010. Currently, she teaches a studio unit at Universidad Católica and at Universidad Diego Portales. Alejandro Beals: Architect, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, 2001; Master of Philosophy candidate at the Royal College of Art (RCA), London, where he is researching about ‘Blurriness and Ambiguity in Architecture’ (2009-2012) under the supervision of professor Nigel Coates. He also teaches a Studio Unit at Universidad Católica. In 2007 they founded Beals + Lyon Architects, developing projects of diverse scales as well as researching in their subjects of interest. Their most recent work include private houses, industries and winning proposals for public buildings, such as the Nancagua City Council in Central Chile and the new National Congress Library in Santiago, this last in association with the architect Matias Zegers. Their work has been featured in books and magazines, such as “Blanca Montaña” (Ed. Puro Chile), ‘Wood Architecture Now!’(Taschen), ARQ, Trace, Summa+, 2G Dossier and The Architectural Review, amongst others. Their work have been selected for the Architectural Biennial of Santiago (2008), the Quito Biennial (2009) and exhibited at the MOMA in New York and MAXII in Rome (2012), as winners of the Chilean version of the Young Architects Program 2012 (YAP-CONSTRUCTO).
