Arata Isozaki & Andrea Maffei Associati
Arata Isozaki & Andrea Maffei Associati was founded in Milan in 2005 as a laboratory for architecture that would rethink and redesign urban neighbourhoods in the most important Italian cities.
Arata Isozaki (Oita, 1931) and Andrea Maffei (Modena, 1968) first met in 1997 when Maffei moved from Florence to Tokyo to work with the Japanese master. Today, Andrea Maffei runs Isozaki’s Italian office in Milan and has been the project architect for a range of commissions, including the Palahockey, the new ice hockey stadium built in Turin for the 2006 Winter Olympics, and the indoor Olympic swimming pool and Piazza d’Armi park in Turin, completed in the same year.
Two major projects from this office are currently underway: the CityLife office and retail tower, a redevelopment project in the former trade fair area in Milan, will break ground in September 2011; and the new Town Library in Maranello will open to the public in the same month.
