Anna-Lisa Smith

Anna-Lisa Smith is based in the small mill town of Marsden, West Yorkshire, where the studio overlooks Bank Bottom Mill which was once the largest privately owned woollen textile mill in the world. Here, woven fabrics are designed and then woven in a mill in Lancashire. They are then brought back to Huddersfield to be washed with one of the most highly skilled cloth finishers in the world, W.T Johnsons. The fabric then returns to the studio where the throws are hand finished, the cushions are hand sewn by a skilled seamstress in the neighbouring village. All production is kept as local as possible to ensure close working relationships and to be part of the skilled historical weaving industry in this area. Anna-Lisa trained in weave at the University of Derby after living for many years in Paris where she was heavily influenced by the simple elegance of French design. This combined with a love of Scandinavian design and an English sense of individuality creates these timeless unique pieces for the home. Every item is treated with care throughout the design and manufacturing process. It is a special product which is designed to be loved and cherished for a lifetime.
