AirClad is the next generation of fast, flexible and environmentally aware architecture. The AirClad product was developed in response to the increasing demand for permanent and semi permanent structures. We began looking at AirClad back in 2006 when we were commissioned to work on cladding a hotel in the Middle East to insulate it against heat gain, thereby reducing the power consumption of the building. This project allowed us to develop a number of solutions for AirClad. We realised that this could be much more than just an over cladding. The AirClad hotel project failed to materialise but the AirClad project has been conceived. We developed a concept pod with Idea Architects and launched it at 100% design 2007 winning the award for best product stand. Whilst the launch structure was undoubtedly a great building - we felt the product was still dependent on too much bespoke construction. We wanted to create a system of building that was simple to understand. The AirClad system is in its simplest form is a structural skeleton with air inflated panels cladding it. The skeleton forms and monoquoques structure with the inflated cladding. The inflated panels offer insulated and structural properties to the finished building and especially allow for a new architectural aesthetic to be achieved. AirClad is a sealed pressure regulated system using very little energy to keep the whole structure in working order. The AirClad system is aimed primarily at 2 areas: The Commercial sector accounting for marketing and events industries looking for contemporary building solutions that stand out from the crowd delivering the fine line between a permanent structure and a temporary structure. The Domestic sector for housing conservatories, swimming pool covers and pool houses and garden Pods which is a booming industry in light of the global communication we now have through the internet and the capacity to work from home. AirClad is not limited to these areas and we have designs on going for hotels, airport terminals, even a caravan park, and more recently we have been looking at humanitarian applications for disaster areas and war zones.
