Talaga Sampireun Bali

K-Thengono Design Studio brings new life to Talaga Sampireun’s Bali location with an innovative concept that diverges from the conventional setup of individual saung (Sundanese huts) and separate dining halls. Instead, the design team has crafted a cohesive narrative inspired by villages from a bygone era. Indra Wiras Indra Wiras A river-like axis is central to the design, featuring a continuous, curved spine surrounded by a lake. Along this "river," spacious dining areas rest on its bends with open-air saung nestled along its path—reminiscent of traditional riverside settlements. This novel design approach provides the main dining areas with direct access to the water's edge, allowing guests to feed fish and bask in... More

This is a renovation project in Yatsuo, Toyama, Japan that transformed the old Japanese house into the photographer, Yusuke Takano’s studio. To create the space, we remained the existing wood structure and add Geometric Abstraction to infill. Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano It all started by noting that there are elements of modernism like Mondrian’s painting in spaces where traditional Japanese architecture appear the vertical and horizontal structures. The space was greatly changed by painting an abstract painting to site-specific canvas. Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano Yusuke Takano More

Ming Dynasty Suite

Richly appointed, our client’s condo on Nicollet Island presented the opportunity to create an atmosphere, spaces to display their art collection and a highly detailed primary suite.  JMAD JMAD JMAD JMAD Architect James McNeal started with the stair railing that connects the upper floor to the suite. The suite was tight on space, so we wanted to use details that would open up the space without eliminating any. Since the tub takes up so much space, we decided to make the tub an art and water feature - with a hand-carved dragon serving at the helm. All the detailing was custom designed by us, with granite and a pebbled tile flooring underneath the tub. We hired local artists to bring our designs to life. JMA... More

Round Roofs Residence

Round Sky and Angular Ground The phrase, “The sky is round and the ground is angular.” is an old-saying found in the Chinese astronomic book, Zhou bi suan jing. Ancient Fareast Asians acknowledged the boundary between the sky and buildings as curves. For that reason, traditional Korean buildings have distinctively curved roof lines. We took a philosophical approach in terms of designing building rather than the curved form itself. KSPNC KSPNC Jinbo Choi Jinbo Choi Filling the Triangular Site The shape of the site is unusually triangular which dissects a road that meets its one sharp corner. Sitting right in front of the Mungyeong City Hall and the Mojeon Park, the site open to outdoor spaces in the neighbo... More
