Archello is happy to announce four additional jurors engaged to review projects and products submitted to the Archello Awards 2024 program. The first registration deadline for entries is set for March 2024, and the reviews will take place in October 2024. Read on to learn more about Amelia Tavella, Carlo Ratti, Sonia Gagné and Davide Angeli:
Amelia Tavella runs her own practice, Amelia Tavella Architectes, based in Aix-en-Provence, France. She was born in Corsica, where she saw the beauty of the landscape as an opening to all horizons. In the Choiseul Ville de Demain awards, she was described as the rising star of French architecture. Her architectural signature, tied to the sensuality of noble, natural materials, is the mark of a constant work on the memory of places, particularly in the Mediterranean.
This creative process is illustrated by the studio’s various projects, including the Convent Saint-François and Ecole A Strega in Corsica, the Château du Seuil, the Cultural center Edmond Simeoni in Lumio, the Citadelle d’Ajaccio, the Simone Veil School in Villeurbanne, the Conservatory Henri Tomasi with Rudy Ricciotti, and the Fossil Building at Cabriès School featured by Archello. Amelia Tavella Architectes also recently won the competition to build Château de Nalys in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the new vineyard of the Guigal family.
Carlo Ratti is a returning Archello Awards juror and a founding partner of Carlo Ratti Associati (CRA), an international design and innovation office based in Turin, Italy. An architect and engineer, Ratti teaches at Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he is Director of the SENSEable City Lab. Ratti is a specialist in the theme of Smart Cities and serves as co-chair of the World Economic Forum’s Global Future Council on the Future of Cities.
Ratti's work has been exhibited globally. He was recently named curator of the Venice Biennale's 19th International Architecture Exhibition, to be held in 2025. CRA was also recently selected to design France’s Pavilion for the Osaka World Expo 2025 in a collaboration with French architectural studio Coldefy.
Sonia Gagné, also a returning Archello Awards juror, is part of the leadership team at the helm of the Canadian practice Provencher_Roy. She has been a partner since 2010, and has acquired over 30 years of experience in design. Her excellence in leadership has been recognized on numerous occasions, particularly by CREW M in 2019, Female Frontier Awards in 2021, and through awards in architectural competitions in which her design projects, like the Port of Montréal’s Grand Quai and Cruise Terminal, have been presented.
Gagné leads various civic and significant urban projects that include the development of Sainte-Catherine Street West in Montréal and LeBreton Flats in Ottawa. Her expertise spans healthcare (Hôpital Pierre-Le Gardeur), cultural (Jean-Noël Desmarais Pavilion – Montreal Museum of Fine Arts), transportation (Vendôme metro entrance), commercial (lg2 Offices), and sports infrastructure (Colisée Vidéotron). She sits on the boards of directors of the Antiquarian and Numismatic Society of Montréal (Château Ramezay) and Montréal centre-ville. In 2021, she joined the honorary committee for the annual Gala of La rue des Femmes women’s organization.
Davide Angeli is Deputy Studio Director of Milan-based AMDL Circle. He has designed interiors and installations for clients ranging from Poltrona Frau, to Artemide, Ferrari and Fiat. He received the “Top Young Italian Industrial Designer Award” promoted by the Italian Cultural Institute of New York and has taught furniture design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan since 2008.
AMDL CIRCLE is a creative multidisciplinary studio renowned for its humanistic architecture and design. It is led by Michele De Lucchi, one of Italy’s leading architects and designers. Headquartered in Milan, Italy, the studio has over 40 years completed projects that include the Unicredit Pavilion in Italy, the Bridge of Peace in Tbilisi, and the Novartis Pavilion in Basel, recently profiled by Archello.
